For all those who are anxiously wondering “what is the Recreation Department Construction all about”, here’s a bit of a primer.
First, the bad news: Due to the summer-long project at the combined Elementary School/Recreation Department, all gymnasium programs (including Tot Open, Open Gym & Open Basketball) are cancelled for summer 2010. These programs will resume when we return to the building; we are anticipating an early-September return.
So now the good stuff: The gym is being overhauled with a new roof, floor repair (including resurfacing, replacement of warped boards), a new WV Bug logo (see pictures), & new, break-away backboards.
The Multi-Purpose Room is having a roof renovation of its own, as the roofline is cut away, revealing a new & improved, snow & rain shedding roofline.
Also, the Curious George Cottage has been relocated onto the property, creating an educational commons or campus. It will be increasingly utilized by the Magret & H.A. Rey Center & Elementary School as an educational facility.
At the far end of the lot, adjacent the gym, the School & Recreation Department are receiving their very own playground; and not just any playground! Our playground will incorporate some free-form, rock-like play structures that are sure to encourage imaginative play. You will definitely want to check this out once its up and running.
A new, school-specific parking area will round out the construction.
We are very interested in seeing the final product & sharing it with all of our friends & family! Please stay tuned for more updates, or contact the Recreation Department at (603) 236-4695.
